The advertising industry has (almost forever) demanded creative pitches and spec work to test out agencies to see if clients like their ideas, on a sample brief, often with only a 2-3 weeks to deliver an entire multi-million dollar campaign idea, for free. (And yes, we’re pretty familiar with this.)
